This is the travel journal James sent the students to write their research notes in for his new book. Students also kept track of mileage and wrote letters to their parents about their adventures. Every few days we would receive a new email from James giving us hints as to where we were going. Students used the internet and articles to write notes about their destinations. They also found that some of James' friends were difficult to travel with! Centipede's boots were STILL a problem...especially in the swamp. The students recorded that they had to have him fitted with handmade purple cowboy boots in Arizona!
Here is the list of the places that we traveled to with James and his friends:
Below is the email we received from James just before our party.

Dear Phoenicians,
Alright you nomadic wanderers! The canyon was scary but in a cool way. My body aches and moans from riding that burro all the way down to Phantom Ranch. Several times during the ride I was sure I would plummet to the bottom, but that sure footed, long eared, burro kept me safe. It was a beautiful ride, the scenery was gorgeous. Centipede required a special handmade saddle to accommodate all of his shiny, brand new, purple, cowboy boots! He went on and on about how lovely they were, and didn’t we all agree? We ended up putting him at the back of the mule train so we wouldn’t have to listen to his bragging anymore.
On the other hand, Ladybug met up with two of her favorite sisters! The three had a grand time catching up with each other. Ladybug learned that both of her sisters currently live in Phoenix and enjoy gobbling aphids in the garden at Esperanza. Keep an eye out, you just might run into them sometime. If you do, please take care and treat them kindly.
When it came time for us to leave, we discovered a note from Ladybug informing us that she had flown to Phoenix to see where her sisters lived. She decided to stay with them and asked that we come by and pick her up.
We all shouted HURRAY when we realized that you live there too. We decided we should all get together and have a shindig! We could play games, eat pizza, and just have fun together. What do you say? By the way, what are the possibilities of Centipede staying on with you for awhile? Maybe he could be your mascot.
So, we will meet you Friday morning at your school. Be ready for us! And, be on the lookout for Ladybug and her sisters.
